Today we hosted some thirty superior generals and introduced them to our anti-human trafficking work.
I felt it was an honor to be around such brave women, "mother generals". Whether leading four thousand nuns or thirty five nuns, these women religious are living testament that the world will always be in need of sisters.
The plethora of charisms and nationalities represented hit me: this world needs more religious sisters. Sisters who would dedicate their lives to something greater than themselves, to live for an ideal, to be living witness of God's compassion to the world. From highly secularized corners of Europe to the deserts of Africa to the tiny islands in the Pacific, the presence of a sister is a constant reminder of hope.
Among many, one mother general asked me if I truly enjoy working with the Good Shepherd sisters. But of course! But a greater affirmation she gave was that this: to share the charism of a congregation as a lay person is a special vocation.
It was a good day to be affirmed by God's grace.
Lord, may many young women today take the courage to answer your invitation to religious life. Amen.
